Worship

Worship is the foundation for everything we do as a congregation!  We believe that our reponse to God's grace in our lives is to worship God and enjoy God forever.  This gratitude informs all that we do in order to follow Christ.

Our worship would be considered "traditional," even as we are open to new music and liturgy.  For instance, most of our hymn singing is accompanied by organ, but often we use piano, guitar, wind instruments, brass, instruments, percussion, as the style of music leads us.  We are "liturgical" in our worship, following the seasons of the church year, beginning with Advent in early December, followed by Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, All Saints' Sunday and Christ the King Sunday.  We pray to God using ancient prayers as well as newer and original prayers.  We celebrate The Lord's Supper (Eucharist) on the first Sunday of each month, as well as in special services.  We sometimes receive the sacrament by the method of coming forward, receiving the bread, dipping it in the cup, (intinction) and returning to our seats.  Other times we serve one another in the pews by passing bread and individual cups.

We celebrate baptisms with great joy, and our baptismal font is always in full view of the congregation, reminding us of our identities as beloved children of God.

We are blessed to have several musical ensembles enriching our worship life.  All rehearse and lead worship during the "academic" year (September - June).  During the summer, we enjoy the musical gifts of individuals and ensembles who help lead our worship: singers, flute and clarinet players, brass players, guitarists, early music specialists.  These people also contribute to our worship throughout the year.  Music is important to our congregation's worship!

Chancel Choir - adults who rehearse and help lead worship.  This group sings anthems and helps lead the congregation's singing.

Faithful in Flannel - an intergenerational choir (teenagers to seniors) who rehearse weekly and generally sing in worship monthly.  This choir sings less traditional music, and might offer a spiritual, a gospel song, a folk song, to the mix of our worship life.  They often wear flannel shirts or flannel scarves - just for fun!

Children's Choir - K-6 aged children rehearse weekly and help lead worship monthly.  They also look forward to participating in a Christmas play each year.  Additionally, they learn to play handbells using color-coded children's bells.

We also have two handbell choirs!

Glory Ringers - for younger folk in our congregation.  This an intergenerational group from 4th grade and up. They play both handchimes (not tone bars) and occassionally handbells.

Bells of Praise - adults/teens who love playing our beautiful and recently refurbished handbells.  They rehearse weekly and generally play an anthem in worship monthly, although they may be called upon more often.
